Reuben Dixon, Iceland 2023
Thank you for the support which enables me to go to Iceland. As a group of 75, we travelled to Iceland on an Iceland air aeroplane. On the aeroplane I was on the emergency exit seat with the window.
While in Iceland we stayed at Úlfljótsvatn Scout Centre the international scout camp for 7 days then spent 3 days in the Loft (a youth hostel in Reykjavik). This is a picture of the campsite area we stayed in.
Throughout the first 7 days we did a lot of activities: archery, a hike, climbing, the golden circle tour, visited the secret lagoon (a hot spring), a glacier walk, cave paddle, painting, campfires, quizzes, and an obstacle course. I particularly enjoyed the glacier hike. The glacier was called the Sólheimajökull – or the home of the sun glacier. While on the glacier, we drank the glacial water like a Viking, looked down a Mulan (a hole through the glacier produced by water), and learnt how they are formed.
I once again thank you for the unique opportunity and amazing time in Iceland. I feel like the trip helped to build my confidence and resilience. Living with a large group for so long was difficult and activities really pushed me out of my comfort zone. Now I believe that I can manage away from home, and I am looking into the merchant navy after school.
Thank you again for helping me go on the trip of a lifetime.
